# AI in the Course Editor

> Build and revise a course with Jaden, the AI assistant in the course editor. See every change in place, then keep or discard them in one step.

export const RelatedPages = ({pages = []}) => {
  if (pages.length === 0) return null;
  return <>
      <br />
      <strong>Related articles</strong>
      <CardGroup cols={2}>
        {pages.map(page => <Card title={page.title} href={page.href} key={page.href} />)}
      </CardGroup>
    </>;
};

<Info>
  **Jaden** is the AI assistant in the course editor. Describe the course you want, or ask for changes to the one you have, and Jaden writes it. You see every change in place and decide what to keep before anything is saved.
</Info>

Jaden works on **courses**. It isn't available for quizzes, surveys, or Journeys. If you don't see it in your course editor, your administrator may have turned it off.

Jaden is separate from the [Juno assistant](/ai-features/ai-assistant) on the home page, but the Juno assistant can hand a course request straight to Jaden. See [Build a course from the assistant](/ai-features/ai-assistant#build-a-course-from-the-assistant).

## Open Jaden

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open a course in the editor">
    Open any course you can edit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Create">
    A **Create** button with a sparkle icon sits at the bottom right of the screen. On a narrow screen, only the icon shows.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Work beside your course">
    Jaden's panel opens next to the course, not over it, so you can keep editing while you chat. Drag the panel's left edge to make it wider or narrower. Select **Minimize chat** to close it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

When you create a new course from the **+ Create** menu, Jaden opens on its own, so you can describe the course straight away. If you create it from inside a Journey, the regular editor opens instead, and you can still select **Create** to open Jaden.

The button also tells you what Jaden is doing while the panel is closed:

| Button | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Create** | Jaden is ready. Select it to open the panel. |
| **Working** | Jaden is writing. |
| **Review 3** | Three sections have changes waiting for you to review. The number is how many sections. |

## Ask Jaden for a course or a change

An empty conversation starts with a greeting and four groups of suggested prompts: **Enrich your team**, **Train your team**, **Onboard new hires**, and **Policy training**. Select a group, hover a prompt to preview it in the message box, and select it to send.

You can also type your own request in the message box, such as *"Make a 10-minute course on how to run a one-on-one, for new managers."*

Under the message box:

* **Add files** (the **+** button) attaches documents, slides, spreadsheets, images, audio, video, and text files, up to 10 at a time. Jaden builds from what's in them.
* **Web search** lets Jaden look things up on the web. It's off until you turn it on.
* **Send** sends your message. While Jaden is working, the same button becomes **Stop**.

***

## Answer a few questions

Before it starts, Jaden may ask a few short questions to understand what you need. They appear above the message box. Pick an answer, type your own under **Other**, or select **Skip**. Use **Next** to move through the questions and **Submit** to finish. If you skip them all, Jaden carries on without them.

***

## Edit the outline

When Jaden plans a course, it shows the proposed sections as an outline before it writes anything. You can:

* Drag a row by its handle to change the order.
* Select a title to rewrite it. Open a row's description to change what the section covers.
* Remove a section, or select **Add section** to add one.

Select **Create** when the outline looks right. Jaden writes what's in the list. Progress shows as it goes, for example **Writing 5 sections · 2 done**. Select a section in the list to open it once it's written.

## Review Jaden's changes

Jaden's changes appear in your course, where they belong. Added content, changed text, and removed content are each marked, with a short label such as **Added question** or **Changed paragraph**. Nothing is saved until you choose.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Look through the changes">
    Above each section, a bar shows how many changes it has. Use the arrows to go to the **Previous change** or **Next change**. Select **See before** to view the section as it was, shown faded, with the caption **Before Jaden's changes**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Switch changes on or off">
    Every change starts switched on. Each change has its own pair of switches, **Switch on this change** and **Switch off this change**. The ✗ and ✓ in the section bar switch every change in that section off or on. Switching saves nothing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep or discard in one step">
    In Jaden's panel, a bar titled **Edited 3 sections** lists each section. Select a row to jump to it. Hover or focus a row to show its ✗ and ✓, which switch that whole section. Then choose one of the buttons at the bottom of the bar: **Keep all**, **Keep 4 of 6**, or **Discard all**. The numbers count changes, not sections.
  </Step>
</Steps>

This is the only save. It applies every switch you set, across every section, at once. After it runs, each row says **Kept** or **Discarded**, and each section's bar confirms with a note such as **Kept 4 changes**.

* If you switch every change off, only **Discard all** is left.
* Not ready to decide? Type in the message box, which now says **Ask for a revision…**. Jaden revises with your switches applied.
* While Jaden is still writing, the switches and the buttons wait. While another editor is in the course, the buttons wait. The bar says why.

<Tip>
  Jaden can also suggest a new cover image for a section. It's one more change in the review, labeled **Added cover** or **Changed cover**, and you keep or discard it like any other.
</Tip>

## Apply recommended settings

After it builds a course, Jaden may suggest settings in a **Recommended Settings** card in the chat. Depending on the course, it can suggest **Completion Criteria**, **Question Retries**, **Due Date**, and, where AI validation is available to you, **Validation Mode**.

Select a setting to see why Jaden suggests it, what it is now, and to change the value. Select **Skip this one** on any setting you don't want. Then select **Apply**, which shows how many settings it will apply, for example **Apply 3**. Select **Skip** to apply none. The card then shows **Settings applied**.

## When something goes wrong

When Jaden can't finish, it says so and leaves your course as it was.

| What you see | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Jaden couldn't finish.** | The whole run failed, or the connection kept dropping. Your course is untouched. Select **New conversation** to continue. |
| **Jaden couldn't update this section.** | One section failed. It stays as it was. Select **Try again** on that section, or **Dismiss**. |
| **You stopped Jaden.** | You selected **Stop**. The original is untouched. |
| **Nothing changed.** | Jaden couldn't change that content. For example, cards, questions, and media inside columns can only be kept as they are. |

If a file doesn't upload, the message says so. Your network may be blocking uploads. Try another network, or paste the text into the message box instead.

## Keep your conversations

Each course has its own conversation with Jaden. The toolbar at the top of the panel has these icon buttons. Hover one to see its name:

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **History** | Opens earlier conversations about this course. You can search them, and they're grouped by date. |
| **Assistants** | Opens a list of assistant styles. See below. This button may not appear for your organization. |
| **New conversation** | Starts a fresh conversation. |
| **Minimize chat** | Closes the panel. |

### Choose an assistant style

If you see **Assistants**, select it to open **Choose Your AI Assistant**. Pick a style on the **Prebuilt Assistants** tab and select **Confirm**.

| Style | Best for |
| - | - |
| **Auto** | Jaden chooses the best style for your topic and goals. This is the default. |
| **Onboarding** | New hire orientation and the first 90 days |
| **Compliance** | Regulatory training, workplace safety, and policy |
| **Technical Skills** | Programming and technical tools |
| **Soft Skills** | Leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence |
| **Sales Enablement** | Product launches, sales ramp-up, and battle cards |

## Work with other editors

Jaden doesn't support editing together yet. If someone else opens the same course, a banner says so and tells you how many editors are active. While they're there, the message box, **History**, **Assistants**, **New conversation**, **Add files**, **Web search**, **Keep all**, and **Discard all** wait until they leave.
