How roles work
Juno uses a role-based permission system. Your role controls what you can see and do. Roles are assigned by your organization’s admins — you cannot change your own role. Two things determine what you can access:- Your role — Learner, Manager, or Admin
- Your organization’s active modules — LMS, LXP, Development, Feedback, and add-ons
Roles
Learner
The default role. Access learning content and set personal goals.
Manager
Everything a Learner can do, plus tools to support and track direct reports.
Admin
Full platform access. Manages users, content, configuration, and analytics.
Juno also has Instructor, Manager & Instructor, and Owner roles. Instructors can author and teach content, and Owners sit above Admins. See Permissions for the full list.
Capability comparison
Area admins
An admin can be scoped to one or more areas instead of getting full platform access. An area admin can manage everything inside their area but nothing outside it. This is useful for delegating slices of the platform to different teams (HR, Finance, L&D, and so on).
A person can hold a different role in each area. For example, Learner everywhere but Admin in Content only. Your effective access in an area is the higher of your base role and your role in that area.
Some people also have a named role, such as IT admin for security and SSO, or Buyer for learning requests and credits. Your admin sets these in Permissions.
Who can assign learning
Your role decides who you can assign learning to, and so does whether you created or co-edit the unit. In the Standard setup, managers assign to their team, Manager & Instructors and admins to anyone, and creators and co-editors can assign their unit to anyone. Your organization can choose a different setup. See Who can assign learning for the full rules. If you’re a manager and can’t find someone you need to assign, ask your admin.What managers see
Managers see their team’s data in the Manager section. Custom attributes on user profiles, such as a region or a cost center, show to managers only when Visible to manager is switched on for them.
