Surveys collect structured feedback from learners. This page covers the survey types available to you, which one fits which situation, and how each type reaches its respondents.

Survey types

You choose the type when you create the survey. The type determines what the survey can be attached to and how it can be assigned.
Training Feedback and Employee Feedback are context-based surveys: each response is tied to the training or employee it was collected about, which is what makes one survey reusable across many trainings or many people.

When to use which

General Survey β€” reach for this first. Use it when the questions stand on their own and you know who should answer:
  • Onboarding check-ins (β€œhow was your first week?”)
  • Company-wide engagement or pulse surveys
  • Feedback on an announcement or policy change
  • Ad-hoc research, standalone assessments
Training Feedback β€” use it when the same questions should follow many different trainings:
  • Post-course reaction surveys sent after completion
  • Pre-training expectation surveys
  • Instructor or workshop evaluation across a whole catalog
Build one Training Feedback survey and attach it to every training that needs it, rather than duplicating a General Survey per course. Results stay separated by training. Employee Feedback β€” use it when the same questions should be asked repeatedly about different people:
  • Manager reviewing a direct report at the end of onboarding
  • Mentor or buddy feedback during a ramp-up period
  • Peer feedback gathered during a structured process

How to assign each type

General Survey β€” manual assignment

1

Open the survey

Go to Surveys and select the survey you want to send.
2

Open the assignment panel

Select Assign, then choose the learners who should respond.
3

Narrow the audience

Filter by attributes such as department, position, or location to target a segment instead of the whole organization.
4

Confirm

Confirm the assignment. Assigned learners are notified and the survey appears in their Surveys list.

All three types β€” automation

Context-based surveys reach learners only through an automation, and General Surveys can use one too. Add an automation with the Assign To Survey action to the training the survey should follow, and set the trigger that should send it β€” for example, completion of a course. Because the automation supplies the context, the same Training Feedback survey attached to twenty courses produces twenty separately reportable sets of responses. See Automations for triggers, delays, and the full list of actions.
Training Feedback and Employee Feedback surveys have no manual assignment path. If one is not reaching anyone, check that an automation exists and is active.

Question types

Anonymous surveys

Any survey can be marked anonymous in its settings. Individual responses are then not attributed to a respondent in the results, and learners see that the survey is anonymous before they start. Set this before the survey goes out β€” switching it afterwards changes how existing responses are presented.

Reading results

Survey analytics show responses per question, with completion rates for the assigned audience. For context-based surveys, filter results by the context the responses came from β€” a specific course, Journey, or event for Training Feedback, and a specific employee for Employee Feedback. That filter is how you compare one training against another using a single survey.
